HYDERABAD: Police detained several family members of Telangana battalion constables on Friday as they gathered at the state Secretariat in Hyderabad to protest their challenging work conditions.

Families from various districts, including wives and relatives of the constables, arrived in large numbers, demanding fair treatment and improved working conditions for their spouses, who they claim are being overworked and undervalued.

The situation grew tense as police intervened to stop the protest. In their attempts, officers reportedly detained not only the protesting family members but also a few civilians present in the area, mistakenly assuming they were part of the demonstration. Despite some individuals clarifying they were only visiting the Secretariat, police proceeded to take them to the station.

A video circulating online captured two women describing how they were forcefully taken to the station despite their repeated clarifications of having no connection with the protest.

The protestors alleged that female officers used force on the wives of constables during the detentions, which further intensified the situation. The police action led to a standoff, with protestors arguing against the treatment of their detained relatives. The incident has sparked a wave of criticism, with families expressing outrage at being denied the right to voice their grievances.
