RAMAGUNDAM: The Ramagundam Police arrested a CPI (Maoist) party leader in Godavarikhani on Friday, said Ramagundam Commissioner of Police Rema Rajeshwari. The police seized posters containing CPI (Maoist) party ideology and propaganda from him.
Speaking to media, Rajeshwari said that the arrested CPI (Maoist) party leader was identified as Pamidimalla Avinash (29), a native of Satulur village, Nadella mandal in Palnadu district of Andhra Pradesh. As part of its efforts to restore its hold in the coal belt area, the CPI (Maoist) party had sent Avinash to Godavarikhani. But the efforts of the Maoist party were thwarted by the police and arrested Avinash during the intervening hours of Thursday and Friday while he was roaming suspiciously towards CSP colony with a bag in his hand, she said.
The Commissioner of Police said that the patrolling team found Avinash suspicious near the RG-1 area general manager’s office in Godavarikhani-I town and approached him to inquire about his whereabouts. At that moment, the accused tried to escape from the place after noticing the patrolling team, she said. The accused pursued B.Sc (Nursing) and maintained his family’s printing press in his village. At that time, some members of the frontal organisations visited his printing press for printing of documents/pamphlets, she added.
Rema Rajeshwari said that through frontal organisation members Avinash had developed contact with the CPI (Maoist) party and was attracted to their ideology. About two years ago he joined the CPI (Maoist) party and was working for them. Recently, he came to Godavarikhani as part of the work to revive SIKASA activities in Godavarikhani town on the instructions of Singareni Karmika Samakhya affiliated to the CPI Maoist party. The police team apprehended him and registered a case on Avinash while he was roaming suspiciously in Godavarikhani, she said and added that further investigations were underway into the case.
