Relief for Mohd Azharuddin as court grants anticipatory bail in HCA case

HYDERABAD: In a huge relief, the Malkajgiri Metropolitan court granted anticipatory bail to former Indian cricket captain and Congress leader Mohammad Azharuddin on Monday, clearing the way for him to file his nomination papers for the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections 2023.
Azharuddin, who is the proposed Congress candidate from Jubilee Hills constituency, had filed an anticipatory bail petition before the court in connection with an alleged misappropriation of funds amounting to Rs 3.85 crore pertaining to the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA).
After hearing the arguments presented by both the public prosecutor and the defense counsel, the court granted anticipatory bail to Azharuddin and directed the Uppal police to serve him with a notice under CrPC section 41(A).
The court also instructed Azharuddin to fully cooperate with the investigating officer during the course of the investigation.
