HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced plans to establish a Skill University in the state.

The announcement was made during a meeting held on Monday at the Engineering Staff College in Gachibowli. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, and other industry leaders and officials attended the meeting.

The Chief Minister directed officials to expedite arrangements for the university's establishment and requested industry leaders and officials submit detailed proposals before the state Assembly's budget session at the end of the month. He said the government would make an appropriate decision within 24 hours after examining the proposals received.

The first Skill University will be set up at the Engineering Staff College, Gachibowli, leveraging its proximity to IT companies and industries. A temporary board for the Skill University will be constituted, modeled after the International School of Business (ISB). Officials have been asked to develop a blueprint for the university's courses, curriculum, industrial needs, and employment opportunities. The university is envisioned as a public-private partnership (PPP) project, with a central hub in Hyderabad and spokes in every district headquarters. Industry leaders will be crucial in curriculum development, skill training, and offering internships.

The government will provide regulatory approvals for land and facilities, including existing ones like ESCI and NAC. A corpus fund will be created with CSR donations from the industry. Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka will manage financial issues, while Minister Sridhar Babu will oversee curriculum preparation. Both ministers will meet every five days to ensure timely progress.

It has been decided to hire a reputed consultancy to prepare proposals and project reports for Skill University. The Department of Industries will be the nodal agency for the university.

The meeting was also attended by Special Chief Secretary to IT and Industry Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary to Education B. Venkatesham, and industry leaders like Dr Reddy's Lab Chairman Satish Reddy and CREDAI President Shekhar Reddy.

Before the meeting, Revanth Reddy inspected the ongoing construction of a convention centre at the Engineering Staff College for over 20 minutes, inquiring about the provided facilities.
