HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed grief over the killing of a two-year-old boy in a stray dog attack at Jawahar Nagar in Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister said the incident greatly upset him and directed officials to take immediate action to prevent such incidents from recurring.
In the wake of frequent dog attacks on children reported in the city, the Chief Minister alerted authorities to take precautions and ordered the establishment of a call centre or toll-free number to receive complaints from residents in areas where the dog menace is more prevalent.
The civic authorities have also been asked to constitute an expert committee involving voluntary organisations like Blue Cross and veterinary doctors to study the impact of climatic conditions and seasonal changes on the increasing number of dog attacks on infants every year. The authorities were advised to vaccinate stray dogs and adopt safety practices in other states to curb the dog menace.
The Chief Minister directed the Medical and Health Department to ensure the availability of required medicines to treat dog bite victims at all urban health centres under GHMC limits and in all primary healthcare centres and hospitals in the state.
Revanth Reddy asked GHMC and municipal officials to take adequate precautions and seek the cooperation of all basti and colony associations to prevent dog attack incidents.
