HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced the introduction of new legislation to combat the growing drug menace in the state.

The announcement was made on Tuesday during the flagging-off ceremony for new vehicles provided to the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau and the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau at the Command & Control Centre in Banjara Hills.

Revanth Reddy highlighted the government's responsibility to instill confidence in the people. He pointed out the devastating impact of the drug epidemic, stating, "The drug epidemic destroys families and the system." He expressed concern over the rampant drug use in various lanes and by-lanes and linked drug abuse to crimes, including violence against children.

The Chief Minister emphasised the assignment of dedicated staff to drug control efforts. He assured that officers who worked effectively in drug control would be promoted.

Revanth Reddy called on the media to focus more on societal issues than political controversies. He stressed the media's role in educating the public about government programmes tackling the drug problem.

Congratulating Megastar Chiranjeevi for his partnership in drug epidemic awareness programs, Revanth Reddy proposed that short anti-drug videos featuring famous actors be made and screened for free in every cinema theatre before movie showings.

"We have allocated the necessary funds and officers for the police system," Revanth Reddy stated, recognising the efficient work of the state's cybercrime team in combating online crimes. He emphasised that cybercrime is one of the biggest problems facing the world today.

The Chief Minister assured the government would support those who comply with new permit regulations. He urged the film industry to recognise its social responsibility in protecting society and raising awareness about drug abuse and cybercrime.

"Friendly policing is only for victims, not for criminals," he said.

He expressed his commitment to making the word "drugs" a term to be feared in Telangana, reinforcing the government's dedication to eradicating the drug menace from the state.
