Revanth Reddy to take call on filling six MLC Seats
MLCs Padi Koushik Reddy, Kadiam Srihari, and Palla Rajeswar Reddy of the BRS and Kasireddy Narayan Reddy of the Congress won the elections and have now become MLAs from their respective constituencies.
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister-in-waiting A Revanth Reddy will have to take a call on filling up MLC positions that are lying vacant.
MLCs Padi Koushik Reddy, Kadiam Srihari, and Palla Rajeswar Reddy of the BRS and Kasireddy Narayan Reddy of the Congress won the elections and have now become MLAs from their respective constituencies. In addition to these four MLC seats, two MLC seats under the Governor's quota are lying vacant.
On September 25, 2023, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan rejected the State Cabinet's recommendation to nominate BRS leader Sravan Dasoju and former MLA Kurra Satyanarayna as MLCs under the Governor's quota. The new Chief Minister would have to accommodate a few disgruntled leaders and aspirants like Shabbir Ali and Addanki Dayakar to placate any internal bickering. The Congress would have to keep the friendly partner CPI in good humour by nominating one from that party.
Another pressing demand from the party would be to rejig the Lok Sabha seats as all those MPs who contested and won as MLAs in the Assembly elections must quit one seat within 14 days of being elected to the Assembly.
While seven MPs contested in these elections as MLAs, three had lost the elections. Incidentally, all of them are from the BJP. Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Soyam Bapu Rao, and Dharmapuri Arvind were defeated by their nearest rivals. Chief Minister candidate A Revanth Reddy, senior Congress leaders Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, and Kotha Prabhakar Reddy from the BRS contested and won the Assembly elections.
The MPs will resign and the posts will lie vacant as it’s not even six months before the Lok Sabha elections scheduled time.
