HYDERABAD: Tensions prevailed when BRS and Congress workers clashed over the protocol violation in a programme for distributing cheques for bonalu celebrations.
The incident occurred at the Khilla Maisamma Temple in Maheshwaram on Monday when the Executive Officer (EO) invited Congress Maheshwaram in-charge Kichannagari Lakshma Reddy to the stage, despite him not having the official protocol. Former Minister and MLA Sabitha Indra Reddy questioned the EO's decision, asking how someone without protocol could be invited to the stage. This led to a scuffle between BRS and Congress supporters.
Police and the EO clarified that only those receiving cheques were allowed inside the meeting hall, and followers accompanying the MLA were not permitted. Sabitha Indra Reddy staged a sit-in protest at the foot of the stage, expressing her discontent.
Sabitha Indra Reddy further protested against allowing individuals who had contested and lost in the Assembly elections to come to the stage.
