HYDERABAD: A six-member Central team led by Central Water Commission (CWC) member Anil Jain will visit the Medigadda Lakshmi Barrage on Tuesday to study the safety of the dam following the sagging of pillars at gate number 15 to 20 of the sixth block.
The expert committee members will hold a meeting with the State Irrigation and Command Area Development Department officials before proceeding to the Kaleshwaram project site.
The Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat responding to a letter written by Union Minister G Kishan Reddy took the decision to send the Central team. The team would ascertain the facts behind the sagging of the pillars of the Barrage.
The team would also look into the reports that there was a huge sound before the pillars sunk. The project officials immediately let the water out by lifting all 85 gates to save the Barrage from further damage.
The CWC team would also look into the details of the soil quality at the project site and would look into reports about the geographical and other tests conducted before the construction of the Barrage. The team would have to study the river cross-section reports that would give them an understanding of how much flood was arriving at the Barrage and how much water was released down the stream.
