Sunita Rao breaks down, alleges discrimination against women in Telangana Congress
Telangana Mahila Congress chief Sunita Rao accuses the party of neglecting women in key positions despite promises of empowerment.
HYDERABAD: Telangana Mahila Congress president Sunita Rao expressed her disappointment over the lack of representation for women in key positions within the party's state unit.
Speaking at a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday, she highlighted the disparity between the party's national stance on women's empowerment and the reality in Telangana.
She pointed out that despite the Congress party's ascent to power in the state, women have not been given their due share in various government positions, including corporation posts. She alleged that women were unfairly treated in nominated positions and expressed her sorrow over the lack of respect within the party, breaking down in tears.
The Mahila Congress chief revealed that she had organised 241 events during her tenure. Despite her efforts, she was given the losing Goshamahal Assembly seat to contest, which she believes was a deliberate attempt to sideline her.
Sunitha Rao further criticised the party leadership for backtracking on its promise of not offering nominated posts to those who received MLA tickets. She claimed that even those who lost the elections were being considered for such positions. She also mentioned that Telangana Congress in-charge Deepa Dasmunsi had assured her of inclusion in the executive meeting only after March.
Despite receiving offers from other parties, Sunitha Rao affirmed her commitment to the Congress party, stating that she had worked diligently without betraying it.
