Supreme Court stays Telangana HC order declaring DK Aruna elected as MLA from Gadwal

The Supreme Court issued notices to the Election Commission and other respondents and asked them to reply within two weeks. The matter has been adjourned for further hearing for four weeks.

NEW DELHI: BRS leader Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy got a huge relief as Supreme Court stayed the Telangana High Court's ruling that the election of Krishna Mohan Reddy as Gadwal MLA was invalid.

The High Court had recently disqualified Krishna Mohan Reddy, the sitting MLA of Gadwal, for allegedly submitting a false affidavit. Based on a petition filed by BJP leader DK Aruna, the court found that Reddy had concealed information about his assets in the affidavit he submitted before the Election Commission.

Krishna Mohan Reddy was disqualified and DK Aruna was declared the MLA. The court also imposed a fine of three lakhs on Krishna Mohan Reddy. The judge ordered that Rs 50,000 be given to DK Aruna.

Krishna Mohan Reddy then approached the Supreme Court against the verdict of the Telangana High Court. Supreme Court, which heard the petition, stayed the Telangana High Court's ruling.

The Supreme Court issued notices to the Election Commission and other respondents and asked them to reply within two weeks. The matter has been adjourned for further hearing for four weeks.
