Telangana Assembly passes resolution seeking central funds

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution demanding that the Central Government amend the Union Budget for the financial year 2024-25 to ensure justice for Telangana.

The resolution, moved by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy after an extensive discussion in the House, received support from all parties except the BJP. The Congress, BRS, MIM, and CPI supported the resolution, while BJP MLAs staged a walkout.

The resolution passed by the Assembly states:

"India is a union of states as per the Constitution written by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. It is the responsibility of the Union Government to ensure the integrated and holistic development of all states in the country. The Central Government has forsaken the federal spirit. Telangana State has been meted out with injustice in the Union Budget presented by the Central Government. The Centre has shown indifference towards Telangana since the state's formation.

The Union Government owes the responsibility of taking all necessary steps for the sustainable development of the two states as per the AP Reorganisation Act. The Centre has failed to fulfill the promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act. The unfulfilled promises in the Act have had a negative impact on the development of Telangana State.

After the People's government assumed power in the state, delegations led by the Chief Minister and ministers met the Prime Minister and Union ministers several times to appeal for financial assistance for projects, the release of funds as per the Act, and to resolve long-pending state issues. The Union Government has completely neglected the state government's pleas and discriminated against Telangana in budget allocations. The State Assembly registers a strong protest and expresses unhappiness over the Centre's neglect of Telangana.

The State Assembly adopts this resolution, appealing to the Centre to render justice to Telangana by amending the budget proposals in the ongoing budget debates.
