Telangana Congress leaders under house arrest, protest against war room raids foiled

HYDERABAD: Several Telangana Congress leaders were placed under house arrest on Wednesday in response to the party's call for a protest against the police raid on the office of party strategist Sunil Kanugolu for making derogatory remarks against Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.
Senior Congress leaders had urged the cadres to hold protests at every mandal headquarters and burn posters of the Chief Minister KCR in response to the police raid on the party war room in Hyderabad.
The Telangana Chief Minister KCR's effigy was set ablaze as Congress members throughout the state protested against the police raids at the Hyderabad offices of party's strategist Sunil Kanugolu.
Senior leaders Mallu Ravi, S. Harivardan Reddy, Rohin Reddy, Malreddy Ramreddy, Anil Kumar Yadav and Motha Rohit, head of the Hyderabad Youth Congress, were put under house arrest. The Congress leaders demanded that the police produce the FIRs so that they could determine who filed the complaints.
Mohammad Shabbir Ali, a senior Congress leader, took to Twitter and stated, "First there was an illegal raid on the Congress war room, and now there is an illegal house arrest of Congress leaders to prevent them from protesting. This is KCR's governance model, in which basic fundamental rights are openly violated and the police are used as a political tool ".
