Telangana elections: More than Rs 632 crore in cash, liquor, drugs seized in two months!

HYDERABAD: Ahead of Telangana elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has seized assets worth over Rs 632 crore in various forms over the last two months. Sharing a seizures report on Monday, the ECI revealed significant confiscations in various categories.

The total cash seizure was Rs 236.35 crore. In terms of liquor, the progressive seizure from October 9, 2023, to November 20, 2023, amounted to Rs 101.57 crore including Rs 2.08 seized on Sunday. The drugs/narcotics seizure showed a progressive total of Rs 35.06 crore with Rs 71.02 lakh (3 kgs Ganja, 89 kgs NDPS) seized on Sunday.

Precious metals seizures reached a cumulative value of Rs 181.05 crore and other items and freebies, including rice, cookers, sarees, vehicles, clocks, mobiles, fans, sewing machines, imitation jewelry, and more, amounted to Rs 78.70 crore. The total cumulative seizures from October 9, 2023, to November 20, 2023, amounted to Rs 6,32,74,73,364.

Highest seizure in Telangana

According to the ECI, seizures over ₹1,760 crore has been reported in the five poll going states of of Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Telangana since announcement of the elections, which is more than 7 times (₹239.15 crore) the seizures made in previous Assembly Elections in these states in 2018.
