Telangana evacuates 106 students, civilians from strife-torn Manipur

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government on Monday evacuated 72 students and civilians from the state, stranded in strife-torn Manipur. They arrived in Hyderabad by a direct flight from Imphal while 34 more would be touching down in Hyderabad via Kolkata on Monday evening.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao took special care of Telangana students and civilians who were stuck in Manipur, ravaged by a violent conflict between two communities.
Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari and Director General of Police Anjani Kumar formed a special working group with a 24-hour control room at the DGP office for the evacuation mission.
Students from NIT, IIIT, JIMS, and Manipur Agriculture University, as well as civilians including a one-month-old infant and his parents hailing from Bhaisa in Nirmal District were among those who returned safely to Hyderabad.
All of the rescued members expressed gratitude to the Telangana government for its humanitarian effort. Telangana Minister Malla Reddy, ADG Welfare Abhilasha, ADG CID Mahesh Bhagwat, DIG WSW Sumati, Rangareddy District Collector Harish and Secretary, Protocol, Aravinder Singh received them at Shamshabad airport.
ADG Greyhound Vijay Kumar, Secretary Industry Jayesh Ranjan, GAD Secretary Sheshadri, Resident Commissioner Delhi Gourav Uppal and Director Aviation Bharat Reddy besides officials of Manipur coordinated the evacuation mission besides ensuring security to the students.
