HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has extended financial assistance to Badawat Madhulatha, a tribal student from Rajanna Sircilla district, who secured a seat in the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy took to 'X' (formerly Twitter) to announce the government's support. "It has come to my attention that our Telangana child, Badawat Madhuluta, who belongs to Rajanna Sircilla, has got a seat in IIT Patna, but is unable to join the college due to financial difficulties," the Chief Minister said. "First of all my heartiest congratulations to her for braving the hardships of poverty and securing a seat in the prestigious IIT. The Telangana People's Government has released the amount required to continue his studies in IIT without any hindrance, through the Tribal Welfare Department yesterday (23rd July, 2024). I want her to excel like this in the future and bring more good name to Telangana."

He also shared a copy of the order issued by Commissioner of Tribal Welfare V Sarveswar Reddy, sanctioning Rs 1,51,831 to the student.

The decision came after a news report highlighted the plight of the student who, despite securing a seat at IIT Patna, was forced to graze goats to support her family. Badavath Madhulatha, a resident of Rajanna Sircilla village, achieved an impressive 824th rank in the JEE exams under the ST category. However, her family's financial constraints made it difficult for her to arrange the required Rs 3 lakh for the hostel and other expenses by July 27.

Earlier in the day, BRS Working President K Taraka Rama Rao also pledged support for the girl. An hour later, the Chief Minister announced the government's decision to sanction Rs 1.51 lakh for her education.
