HYDERABAD: Even as the Telangana Government has knocked the doors of the Supreme Court seeking directions to the Governor of Telangana Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan to fulfil her Constitutional obligation, the Governor, on Friday, walked into the controversy by tweeting a snub on Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari.

Angered by this, tweeple from Telangana began trolling the Governor seeking to know what caused her to sit on the Bills passed by a democratically elected legislature and take to social media to express her displeasure.

As if to reprimand the Chief Secretary, who represented the State Government in appealing to the Supreme Court, the Governor tweeted: “Dear @TelanganaCS Rajbhavan is nearer than Delhi. Assuming office as CS you didn't find time to visit Rahbhavan (sic) officially. No protocol! No courtesy (sic) even for courtesy call. Friendly official visits & interactions would have been more helpful (sic) which you Don't even intend. Again, I remind you Rajbhavan is nearer than Delhi @TelanganaCS.”

It may be recalled that the Chief Secretary and also DGP Anjani Kumar attended the flag-hoisting by the Governor in Raj Bhavan on the Republic Day. Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy had taken a delegation of officials, including the Chief Secretary, to meet the Governor on another issue.

The Governor has always been making a big issue out of the State administration not following the protocol. This is not the first time that the Governor and the State administration, especially Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, are at loggerheads.

The State Government had approached the High Court seeking direction to the Governor to give assent to the pending Bills, just on the eve of the Budget Session of the legislature.

Consequent upon taking up the issue, the High Court bench consisting of Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Judge Justice Tukaram Ji advised the Governor and the Government to resolve the issue “amicably”.

Accordingly, both sides – the Telangana Government and the Governor’s office at Raj Bhavan – arrived at an amicable solution after deliberations held at the Chamber of Advocate-General. As agreed between the two sides, the Governor will be invited to deliver her address at the start of the Budget Session of the State Legislative Assembly. On the other hand, the Raj Bhavan will clear the pending bills, as required for the smooth functioning of the State administration.

The State Government had expected that the Governor’s office would clear all the pending Bills passed by the legislature, soon after rge Governor’s address to the legislature on February 5. However, except for according approval to the Budget presentation, the Governor apparently has chosen not to give assent to the Bills. Irked by this, the State Government, which feels it’s being “arm-twisted”, moved t he Supreme Court to hammer out this deadlock, lest the governance should suffer badly.

Instead of giving assent to the Bills, the Governor chose to kick up a controversy by tweeting.

However, tweeple came up with acerbic reactions. High Court advocate V Ramakrishna responded saying: “Please do think of general Public's opinion. Matters which can be dealt within the highest offices are being put on the Public domain will only lead to disrespect to the positions you both are holding.”

Another reply from Samrat said: “Madamji, pending bills are at your Rajbhavan office only.. please visit your office room once in Raj bhavan to pass the pending 10 bills.. Again we remember you to pass the 10 bills which were pending on your table.”

Another Twitter user Venkat Goud said: “First Do Your Job and Sign the Pending Bills. You are More interested and concentrated working on Uplifting your BJP party here in Telangana which is just a dream.” Another user pointed out: “First Do Your Job and Sign the Pending Bills. You are More interested and concentrated working on Uplifting your BJP party here in Telangana which is just a dream.”

One user made stratight (sic) point asking the Governor: “Hello nominated governor, if you have any concerns with the bill, you can write to the departments expressing your concerns. Did you?”

Anotrher (sic) user, who named himself as ‘Bulls Eye” tweeted: “If you think there are concerns over the bills Which was approved by cabinet, then Why don't you reply, why it was long pending playing petty politics like a BJP agent and blabbering by saying protocol Pass the bill and earn respect, don't ask for it.”

Another user said: “Respect can't be expected from someone, it needs to be earned by actions? Petty and silly points raised? Is it not the duty of the Guv office to approve or to return the bills etc. without approval seeking sufficient information on the matters ? That's it ?”

Interestingly, none of the tweeple took her side and supported what she has been doing.

We have embedded the Governor’s tweet in this story so that every one can read the comments also.

The big question now is that whether the Supreme Court would take cognisance of the Governor’s tweet, as the issue is put to debate in public domain.
