HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court has declined to order an immediate halt to the ongoing demolitions by HYDRAA which target structures built on encroached lakebeds and drainage channels.

Praja Shanti Party President KA Paul filed a petition in the Telangana High Court, requesting an immediate stop to these demolitions. The petition was heard on Friday and the High Court made it clear that it could not order a cessation of the demolitions at this stage. The court has issued notices to the HYDRAA and the state government, instructing them to submit their counters regarding the ongoing action. The next hearing has been scheduled for October 14.

KA Paul, appearing in person, argued that the demolition actions should only proceed once HYDRAA receives proper legal authorisation. He also stressed that, as per the law, a 30-day prior notice should be given before taking down any illegal structures. Additionally, Paul requested the court to place a stay on Government Order (GO) Number 99, which he claims underpins the demolition drives.
