Telangana nails indifference of Centre on impact of Polavaram backwaters on its territory
The ENC in his letter pointed out that the said stand of the Union of India was totally contrary to the ground reality as none of the activities have been undertaken and hence could be considered as mere eyewash
HYDERABAD: In a strongly worded letter, Engineer-in-Chief (General) C Muralidhar of Telangana Irrigation and Command Development Department urged the Central Water Commission (CWC) to address the concerns of Telangana over the Polavaram project backwater problem.
The ENC reminded the CWC about the compliance affidavit filed by the Central Government on September 1, 2023, that the officials of the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana gave their consent for joint survey on issues pertaining to Telangana.
“Based on survey results, necessary measures are to be taken by Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) and Government of Andhra Pradesh as may be required and thus the matter was resolved for taking further actions," the Centre said.
The ENC in his letter pointed out that the said stand of the Union of India was totally contrary to the ground reality as none of the activities have been undertaken and hence could be considered as mere eyewash.
Telangana urged the CWC to initiate steps to resolve all the concerns raised by Telangana in line with the submission made by the Union of India in the Compliance Affidavit. Telangana sought CWC to ensure that Andhra Pradesh kept all 48 gates and sluices of the Polavaram Project open all through the year to reduce the submergence of areas in Telangana, particularly the temple town of Bhadrachalm.
