Telangana police intensify combing operations in Chhattisgarh borders over threat of Maoist attacks
With the results of Telangana elections coinciding with the PLGA week on December 3, there is a threat of Maoist attacks in the agency areas.
HYDERABAD: Telangana police, along with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and other security agencies, have intensified their combing operations in the State's borders with Chhattisgarh, notably in Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts, in the wake of the call given by the banned CPI (Maoist) to observe the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) week from December 2 to 8.
With the results of Telangana elections coinciding with the PLGA week on December 3, there is a threat of Maoist attacks in the agency areas.
On Thursday, on the day of voting, a landmine was unearthed by the State police and CRPF personnel in Charla mandal of Bhadradri Kothagudem district. The landmine was allegedly planted by Maoists to target the police deployed on election duty.
Extensive inspections are being conducted in Mulugu and Jayashankar Bhupalapally districts. The police are monitoring any movements of Maoists with the assistance of drone cameras.
There is high alert in Wazedu, Venkatapuram, Eturnagaram, Mahadevpur, Maha Mutharam, Palimela, Kataram and Malhar mandals where the combing operations have been intensified in the forests following intelligence reports of possible Maoist attack on public representatives and contractors.
