Telangana submerged as continuous rains wreak havoc
Torrential rain has caused chaos in Telangana, India, with rivers bursting their banks and cutting off transport links.
HYDERABAD: Heavy rains have been lashing Telangana since Saturday, leading to widespread disruption and flooding across the state.
The continuous downpour has caused rivers and streams to overflow, submerging several areas. Mahabubabad district is particularly affected, with several water bodies, including the Pakala Lake, breaching their banks.
In Kesamudram mandal, the railway track between Tallapusapalli and Intikanna was damaged, as gravel was washed away beneath the track. This led to soil erosion, and floodwaters began flowing underneath the railway line, halting train services on the Vijayawada-Kazipet route.
Mahabubabad, Suryapet, and Khammam districts were among the worst affected by the rains. Huzurnagar mandal in Suryapet district recorded the highest rainfall at 29.98 cm.
Across the state, Ingurthi in Mahabubabad district saw 29.8 cm of rainfall, while Chilkur in Suryapet district recorded 29.7 cm. Other significant rainfall figures include 29.6 cm in Narsimhulapet (Mahabubabad district) and Tirumalayapalem (Khammam district), 29.4 cm in Dantalapalli, 29.1 cm in Maripeda, and 28.6 cm in Kuravi. Chinagudur recorded 28.5 cm, Mattampally in Suryapet saw 28 cm, Maddirala 27.7 cm, and Parvathagiri in Warangal district registered 26.6 cm. Both Mahabubabad and Nekkonda in Warangal district recorded 26.6 cm and 25.9 cm, respectively, while Mothe in Suryapet district also recorded 25.9 cm of rainfall.
