HYDERABAD: "Telangana’s explosive growth over the last 5–10 years, numbers speak for themselves", said former Minister and BRS working president KT Rama Rao. Taking to X on Thursday, he thanked former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao who made this transformation possible.

Quoting data from the Reserve Bank of India’s Handbook of Statistics on Indian States 2022-23, he said that Telangana topped the growth rate of per capita net State domestic product, an indicator of the value of all the goods and services produced by the State divided by its population.

As per the data from 2017-18 to 2022-23, Telangana grew at an absolute growth rate of 28.52 percent, topping the country. Telangana was followed by Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Haryana, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand.

Telangana’s capital expenditure, an indicator of investment in infrastructure, stood at Rs 67, 584 crore in 2022-23, whereas it was Rs 47,995 crore in the residual State of AP. The State with the highest capital expenditure was Uttar Pradesh with Rs 1,49,430 and the lowest was Sikkim with Rs 1,762 crore.

During 2023, the corresponding per capita income in Telangana was Rs 3,12,398. The estimated per capita income in Sikkim was the highest among Indian states at around Rs 5,19,000. Meanwhile, it was the lowest in the northern state of Bihar at over Rs 54,000. India's youngest state, Telangana stood in fifth place.

On the other hand, Telangana fared well in terms of the human index, with overall rural unemployment estimated at 28 unemployed per 1,000, and urban overall unemployment at 78 per 1,000. Goa topped in rural unemployment with 113 per 1,000 and Himachal Pradesh topped urban unemployment with 151 per 1,000.
