Telangana witnesses one-sided contest in majority of Lok Sabha constituencies

HYDERABAD: Telangana experienced a largely one-sided contest in the recent Lok Sabha elections, with winning candidates securing substantial margins in most of the 17 constituencies. Whether it was Congress, BJP, or AIMIM, the trend of decisive victories was evident. Out of the 17 seats, candidates won with a margin of over 1 lakh votes in 11 constituencies, showcasing the clear preference of the electorate.

Only in four constituencies did the winning margin fall below 50,000 votes, indicating relatively closer contests. These seats include Zahirabad, where Suresh Kumar Shetkar of Congress won by 46,188 votes; Medak, where M. Raghunandan Rao of BJP won by 39,139 votes; and Secunderabad, where G. Kishan Reddy of BJP won by 49,944 votes. The Mahbubnagar constituency, in particular, witnessed an intense battle, with BJP's D.K. Aruna narrowly defeating her opponent, Vamshi Chand Reddy, by a razor-thin margin of 4,500 votes. This close contest stands in stark contrast to the more decisive victories seen in other constituencies.

In three constituencies, the winning margin exceeded 2 lakh votes, reflecting one-sided contests. These include Karimnagar, where Bandi Sanjay Kumar of BJP won by 225,209 votes; Bhongir, where Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy of Congress won by 222,170 votes; and Warangal, where Kadiyam Kavya of Congress won by 220,339 votes. Another three constituencies saw margins exceeding 3 lakh votes, further emphasizing the dominance of the winning candidates. These are Hyderabad, where Asaduddin Owaisi of AIMIM won by 338,087 votes; Mahabubabad, where Balram Naik Porika of Congress won by 349,165 votes; and Khammam, where Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy of Congress won by 467,847 votes, one of the highest margins recorded.

The Nalgonda constituency set a new record, with Kunduru Raghuveer of the Congress party securing an extraordinary victory by a margin of 559,905 votes. This record-breaking margin underscores the decisive support for Congress in Nalgonda, making it the most one-sided contest in the state.
