Tension grips Kollapur as TRS MLA arrested
The police house-arrested TRS MLA Harshavardhan Reddy citing prevention of a public debate
HYDERABAD: A large number of people have gathered in Kollapur near the residence of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MLA Beeram Harshavardhan Reddy after he was arrested by the Nagarkurnool district police on Sunday.
The police house-arrested TRS MLA Harshavardhan Reddy citing prevention of a public debate between him and former minister Jupally Krishna Rao. The duo had challenged each other for a discussion at the Ambedkar junction over the development and welfare that happened at Kollapur during their respective regimes.
It is learned that the duo sought permission from the police on June 26 for the debate. However,the police denied permission for any meeting or gathering at the Ambedkar Chowk and imposed a curfew on Sunday.
The police had asserted that there was no permission given for any meeting and gathering and asked the people not to gather.
Meanwhile, the police had been deployed at MLA Harshavardhan Reddy's and Jupally Krishna Rao's houses for obstructing people and activists. Few activists who created ruckus were arrested and shifted to the police station.
