HYDERABAD: A 1.5-year-old tigress was discovered dead in Kagaznagar jungle, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad district, Telangana, after a territorial fight amongst tigers on Sunday.

The vigilant staff led by Deputy Revenue Officer Rama Devi, discovered the carcass of a female tiger in Daregaon Beat at 1:45 PM. DFO Asifabad, Niraj Tiberwal, accompanied by officials, including two veterinary doctors, rushed to the scene for a thorough investigation.

The findings revealed a 1.5-year-old deceased tigress had injuries on the neck and abdomen, accompanied by hair samples in its mouth, likely from another tiger. The right hind leg showed signs of a fracture, with dried blood oozing from the injuries.

The veterinarians ruled out hunting, poisoning, or external harm such as snares and traps. The animals' skin and other bodily parts, including their nails, were also discovered to be intact.

Based on the observations and investigation, the team determined that this was a territorial struggle between tigers.

The death was estimated to have occurred at least 3-4 days prior, based on the decomposed carcass.

The tigress carcass was properly disposed of in the Tiger Corridor of Kawal Tiger Reserve, following protocol and proper documentation.
