HYDERABAD: BRS leaders Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, Kadiam Srihari and Padi Kaushik Reddy resigned from their MLC posts on Saturday. They were recently elected as MLAs from Jangaon, Station Ghanpur, and Huzurabad respectively.

They handed over their resignation letters to Telangana Legislative Council chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy who approved the request. As per rules, the Election Commission would hold an election for the vacant posts within the next six months.

The post of MLC was always clouded in controversy due to frequent tussles between the previous BRS Government and Governor Tamilisai Soundarajan.

Padi Kaushik Reddy was nominated as MLC in Governor Quota under the social service category on July 21, 2021 and the file was sent to Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan for approval. However, after a long delay, the Governor rejected his candidature on November 16, 2021. Kaushik Reddy was then elected unanimously as MLC under the MLA's Quota on November 22, 2021.

Similarly in September this year, the Governor had rejected the Cabinet's proposal to nominate BRS leaders Dasoju Sravan and K Satyanarayana to the Legislative Council under the Governor's quota saying that the two were politically aligned.
