NIZAMABAD: A tremor with a magnitude 3.1on the Richter scale jolted Nizamabad in Telangana in the early hours of Sunday. Panicking, people ran out of their houses and spent sometime in the streets fearing damage and destruction.
However, the latest seismic activity was too mild to have caused devastation. No reports of casualties and destruction were reported. The residents were clearly woken up and frightened by the rumblings from beneath the ground prompting them to run to safety.
It is known that there were tremors felt in various places in the two Telugu states in the recent past while the officials of the National Centre of Seismology department are researching on these mild quakes.
The tremors occurred frequently in Telangana. According to the information available, the seismic activities were reported at Bilapur of Zaheerabad mandal on December 6, and Ramagundam of Mancherial on October 2, 2021, with a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale. Also on October 15, 2022, a tremor occurred in Adilabad district and Mancherial On 1 November 2021 while a minor earthquake was felt in Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district and Mancherial district of Telangana state.
On the other hand, another mild quake was experienced in the NCR region of Delhi on November 29 last year with a magnitude of 2.5 on the Richter scale.
