TRS is now BRS; KCR receives ECI's consent, formation fete on Friday

HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Supremo and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) on Thursday received an official letter from Election Commission of India, approving the proposed change of name of TRS as 'Bharat Rashtra Samiti' (BRS).
In this context, BRS President KCR decided to organise the formation event of Bharat Rashtra Samiti at the auspicious time of 1.20 pm on Friday, December 9, 2022, and commence the official programmes relating to it.
On this occasion, KCR will formally sign the official letter at 1.20 pm and send the same to the Election Commission of India. Later, KCR will hoist the BRS flag during the inaugural ceremony.
The Chief Minister has directed the state party executive committee members, party district presidents, ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs to attend the programme that will be held in Telangana Bhavan.
Besides them, chairpersons of the Zilla Parishad and various State Government corporations, DCCB presidents, DCMS presidents and others have also been asked to reach the Telangana Bhavan before noon on Friday.
With this, all the formalities regarding the re-christening of the TRS as BRS would be completed and pave the way for the endeavours of KCR and the party to go national in full steam.
A little over two months ago, on the auspicious day of Dasara (Vijaya Dasami) on October 5, 2022, KCR grabbed national headlines when he announced the metamorphosis of the TRS into BRS. His decision followed his long meeting with the party's executive members and other functionaries at the Telangana Bhavan.
During the meeting, KCR gave a detailed account of the need for the TRS to go national, as beckoned by the need for a potent political alternative for the current dispensation at the Centre. Soon after announcing his decision, KCR signed on a drafted letter addressed to the Election Commission of India, seeking its consent for the same.
In view of the pendency of the ECI consent, KCR's party contested the Munugode Assembly by-election on November 3 with its original name before eventually wresting the seat.
