YSRTP leaders resign en masse condemning YS Sharmila’s decision to support Congress

HYDERABAD: In a major blow to the YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP), several leaders announced their resignation from the party on Tuesday. The YSRTP members under the leadership of senior leader Gattu Rama Chandra Rao condemned YSRTP chief YS Sharmila’s decision to stay away from contesting the Assembly elections and extend unconditional support to the Congress.
The enraged leaders removed the YSRTP scarves and raised slogans ‘Andhra Sharmila Go Back’ and demanded that she leaves Telangana for deceiving the people. Speaking to media at the Press Club in Somajiguda, senior leader Gattu Ramachandra Rao apologised to the people of Telangana for supporting Sharmila all these days. He also alleged that Sharmila sold out her party to the Congress.
“The YSRTP chief has defamed the legacy of her father and former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR) by supporting the Congress. Sharmila is unfit to be a politician and she has scoffed at the people of Telangana. We are all expelling her from Telangana,” he said and added that future course of action would be disclosed soon.
Another leader, Satyavathi said that YS Sharmila deceived the followers of YSR. “I joined the YSRTP and participated in padayatra with Sharmila after she promised top priority for women. The YSRTP chief never considered the views of the party leaders and proceeded further with her own agenda. We are all apologising to the people of Telangana and will defeat Sharmila in the coming elections wherever she contests,” she said.
