HYDERABAD: The Nagarjuna Sagar project is filled to the maximum capacity due to heavy flood coming from upper reaches. With this, project Chief Engineer Srikantha Rao and Superintending Engineer Dharma Nayak decided to lift the 10 crest gates of the project by 10 feet. As much as 77,750 cusecs of water is being released downstream. At present 4,72,708 cusecs of flood is coming into Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir, while 1,17,580 cusecs of water is going out.

The full reservoir level of the project is 590 feet and at present the water level is 586.90 feet. On the other hand, out of the maximum water capacity of 312.0405 TMC ft, 304.9495 TMC ft of water is currently stored in the project.

Meanwhile, Srisailam project is heavily flooded and is receiving a flood of 3,88,717 cusecs. As the reservoir is already full, the officials have raised 10 gates by 12 feet releasing 3,79,110 cusecs downstream. The full reservoir level of Srisailam is 885 feet and at present the water level is at 884.60 feet.


Danger alert at Godavari


Second level danger alert was issued at Dhavaleswaram as the project is brimming due to a surge in Godavari floods amid heavy rains for the last three days. The current inflow and outflow of the project are recorded as 13.19 lakh cusecs.

A total of three SDRF and three NDRF teams are deployed for the relief operations to be carried out in the flood affected areas. The officials have sent one NDRF team each to P. Gannavaram of Ambedkar Konaseema district, Koonavaram and Kukunoor of Eluru district, while two SDRF teams deployed in Amalapuram and one in VR Puram in Alluri Seetharamaraju district.

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Managing Director of Disaster Management Organisation, advised the people of Godavari basin to be alert and take precautions ahead of expected floods.
