AMARAVATI: In a major blow to the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) ahead of the 2024 Assembly elections, Mangalagiri MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy has resigned from the party and also as an MLA.

He submitted his resignation to P Satyanarayana Reddy, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly speaker on Monday and cited personal reasons.

Speaking to media, Ramakrishna Reddy said that he was denied MLA ticket twice when he was in the Congress. He thanked Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for providing him an opportunity to serve as an MLA twice. "Soon, I will disclose the complete details of my resignation from the YSRCP and as an MLA," he said.

Ramakrishna Reddy defeated TDP leader Nara Lokesh in 2019 Assembly elections. Over the years, Reddy was loyal to the YS Rajasekhar Reddy (YSR) family. He is said to be unhappy with the party's attitude for not sanctioning funds to his constituency.

The MLA followers said that the State Government had promised to sanction Rs 1,250 crore to the constituency. However, the promise was conveniently ignored which forced Ramakrishna Reddy to quit the party.

The internal squabbles between the YSRCP leaders in Mangalagiri constituency of Guntur district have reached extreme levels in recent times. Mangalagiri Tadepalli city president Donthireddy Vemareddy had opened his office, despite the MLA having an office.

Moreover, the MLA followers also alleged that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy did not initiate any measures to resolve the internal squabbles among the party leaders was also one of the reasons for Ramakrishna Reddy to resign the YSRCP and as an MLA.
