AMARAVATHI: The Roads and Buildings department of has told the High Court that Rs.32 crore has been sanctioned for taking up repair of the road connecting Kurnool and Mantralayam.
The Government Order was issued following of a public interest litigation (Case no. WP(PIL) 167 of 2022) filed in the High Court highlighting the difficulties faced by people owing to the 14-km-long road that’s worn out and urged
the State government be directed to take up the repair on an urgent basis.
The PIL was filed by a resident of the Kurnool district and it came up before the Division Bench of Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Raghunandan Rao.
The petitioner said that the condition of the road was so horrible that RTC buses and ambulances were unable to travel on it. Students and elders who used RTC buses to reach schools, colleges, offices were facing serious hardship commuting on the Kurnool-Mantralayam road.
The Court in its interim order in October, 2023 asking the R&B department to prevent lorries from plying on the road as they were damaging the road further and had also directed the government to allot funds urgently to take up repairs.
The court had adjourned the matter to know whether tender notifications for the works were called for or not.
