HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has withdrawn the complaint lodged against maverick movie-maker Ram Gopal Varma aka RGV, following his explanatory tweet that his intent is not to hurt anybody.
Quoting his earlier tweet in which a reference was made to NDA's Presidential nominee Draupadi Murmu and he sought to know who were 'Pandavas' and, "more importantly, who are the KAURAVAS?" he withdrew the comment in it.
In his quote tweet, RGV said: "This was said just on an earnest irony and no intended in any other way. Draupadi in Mahabharata is my favourite character but since the name is such a rarity I just remembered the associated characters and hence my expression. Not at all intended to hurt sentiments of anyone."
It may be recalled that BJP leaders lodged a complaint against RGV on his social media post against the NDA's presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu in Abids police station in Hyderabad on Friday. Leaders claimed that the filmmaker had tweeted derogatory comments on Ms Murmu. The complaint was lodged by Guduru Narayana Reddy and former MLA Nandeeshwar Goud. They urged the Police to lodge a complaint under SC/ST atrocities Act.
