HYDERABAD: When former TDP MLA of Denduluru Constituency Chintamaneni Prabhakar was booked on the charges of "organising gambling" at Chinnakanjerla in the late hours of July 6, little does anyone know what will happen to the seized roosters.

The police conducted a raid on a mango garden in the late hours of July 6 and nabbed 40 persons. Prabhakar and a few escaped. However, the police booked cases against 70 persons.

Though the former MLA initially denied having been there and any involvement in the gambling, he had to admit eventually after the police produced a video-graphic evidence. He had said that participating in cockfights was his weakness.

Well, the facts aside, the Excise and Prohibition special mobile court auctioned the 31 cocks seized by the police.

The open auction in which 36 "unknown" (their details kept confidential) bidders participated and bade them for a whopping Rs. 4.46 lakh.

The highest a rooster was bade for was Rs.30,000 followed by another for Rs.27,000, according to Sangareddy Inspector N Venugopal Reddy.

Now, who bought them anyway? It's said most of the roosters were bought over back by the original owners who coughed up the sum, what would they do with them?

If the buyers sell them to restaurants which are famous for 'Natukodi' delicacies, the 'sacrificial cocks' would melt in the mouths of connoisseurs and chicken aficionados. Bon appetit.
