‘Chicken Friday’: TSRTC Karminagar-2 depot to auction rooster on Jan.12
The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) will be auctioning a well-groomed rooster on Friday.
HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) will be auctioning a well-groomed rooster on Friday.
Doesn’t this sound weird? Yes. But, it’s true. No, the RTC has not taken to the sale of roosters to make additional revenue.
It has chosen to do so under compulsion.
A passenger from Warangal to Vemulawada forgot a rooster he was carrying in the bus and alighted without noticing the same at Karimnagar bus station on Tuesday, January 9.
The co-passengers of the bus noticed a bag that belonged to a passenger and discovered that its owner had alighted the bus already. They drew the attention of the RTC Controller to the bag that was left out.
The controller and his staff thought through on what to do with the bag. Unable to hold their suspense for long, they decided to open the bag.
None of them for sure would have read Jack Canfield’s blockbuster hit, “Chicken Soup for the Soul”. Yet, they acted as if they were motivated by one of the numerous quotes he dished out to the people, “if it ain’t fun, so don’t do it,” they felt it must be fun. Hence the opening of the unclaimed bag.
Therefore, they decided to auction the bird. Accordingly, the depot manager had a handwritten notice affixed at the depot announcing that the rooster meant for betting in cockfights would be put on open action at 3 pm on January 12 at Karimnagar-2 depot.
The bird tended by the staff would go under the hammer on Friday. What would they do with the proceeds is of course not known as it’s not the property of the RTC.
But this episode indeed provided a comic relief to the RTC staff from their daily drudgery.
