Telangana is staring at the prospect of widespread power cuts on Monday due to a protest call given by Power Engineers Association
HYDERABAD: Telangana is staring at the prospect of widespread power cuts on Monday due to a protest call given by Power Engineers Association and Vidyut JAC leaders. They called for a Maha Dharna on Monday to register their protest against the Central government's plan to introduce the Electricity Act Amendment Bill in Parliament. A poster in connection with the Maha Dharna was released on this occasion.
As part of their protest, the electricity department employees across the state will be boycotting their duties on Monday. Speaking to the media about their agitation plan, the leaders said: "The Union Government is planning to introduce the Electricity Act Amendment Bill in Parliament on August 8 (Monday). Electricity department employees across Telangana should abstain from their duties on Monday. Even in case of interruptions in power supply, we will continue our protest by not restoring the services. We request the power consumers to cooperate with us in our protest.
"If the Centre goes ahead and introduces the amendment bill in Parliament, then we will intensify our agitation. We will not only continue to boycott our duties but even go on an indefinite strike, the leaders threatened.
