Godavari reaches 32.2 metres at Polavaram; 50.40 ft at Bhadrachalam

HYDERABAD: Amid heavy rains across the Telugu states, River Godavari near Polavaram is overflowing. The water level at the Polavaram project due to the floods have increased resulting in the lifting of 48 gates to release it downstream. The water level at the Polavaram project which was 28.640 metres on Saturday reached 32.2 metres currently. Godavari water level is rising at the rate of 35 cm per hour.

It is learnt that about nine lakh cusecs of water released downstream from Polavaram project and a flood of 12 lakh cusecs is expected by noon. The flood flow into Godavari has been increasing constantly and as a result project works were stalled.

Meanwhile, the water level of Godavari was recorded at 50.40 feet at Bhadrachalam and currently the first warning is in force and likely to be issued third warning after the water level reaches 53 feet.
