Home Ministry sounds security alert: Drones banned around 5 km of Hakimpet Airforce Station
Cyberabad Commissioner Stephen Raveendra said that the ban has been imposed as a precautionary measure to prevent any security threat to the Prime Minister
HYDERABAD: A day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Telangana, the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate has banned flying of drones, paragliders, and other aerial platforms around 5-kilometre radius of the Air Force Station in Hakimpet.
The ban has been imposed under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and will remain in force for the entire day on July 8, 2023.
In a statement by Cyberabad Commissioner Stephen Raveendra, the police said that the ban has been imposed as a precautionary measure to prevent any security threat to the Prime Minister.
The release stated that a memorandum was issued by the Union Home Ministry in 2019 that a number of terror attacks in India might be carried out using drones. The memorandum also prescribed that the State and Union Territories should prohibit the flying of such aerial platforms over 5 kilometres radius from the State Secretariat complex in State capitals and 2 kilometres radius around strategic vital installations.
The Cyberabad Police Commissionerate also warned that anyone found violating the ban would be punished under Section 188 of the IPC. The section carried a maximum punishment of six months in jail or a fine of Rs 1,000, or both.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Hyderabad on July 8 to lay foundation stones for the railway wagon overhauling centre at Kazipet in Hanamkonda district and mega textile park at Warangal.
