ADILABAD: The Kadem Narayan Reddy project in the district was flooded due to heavy rains in the upper reaches. As a result, the water level in the project has reached a dangerous level. While the inflow of five lakh cusecs continues into the project, the authorities are releasing three lakh cusecs of water by lifting 17 gates. But since the inflow is two lakh cusecs more than the outflow, water is flowing from the top of the embankment of the project. Meanwhile, one of the total 18 gates of the project was broken. With this, 17 gates were completely opened. But officials are worried that if the flood increases further, there is an imminent danger.
Meanwhile, District Collector Mushsharaf and other officials reviewed the situation at the project throughout the night due to the high level of flood. People of 20 villages belonging to Kadem and Dasturabad mandals are being moved to safer places. Villagers downstream of the dam have been warned to be alert.
The Gaddennavagu project in the district has experienced a huge flood surge. Due to this, the water level in the project has reached the maximum level. While 56,000 cusecs of water is coming into the project, 42,300 cusecs of water is going out. Officials lifted four gates of the project and releasing the water downstream as the flood flows.
Minister Indrakaran Reddy visited the Kadem project along with MLA Rekha Naik and district officials arrived at the project and monitoring flood water inflow, outflow, evacuation of flooded villages to safe areas, and relief measures in the project.
Speaking to media, Minister Indrakaran Reddy said that flood water reached the project to a dangerous mark and the district administration was alerted. People of villages around Kadem were being shifted to safe places. He made clear that the situation had arisen as a large amount of flood water has entered the project.
"We are regularly reviewing the situation with MLA Rekha Naik, Collector Mushraf Ali Farooqui, District SP Praveen Kumar, Revenue and Irrigation officials and regularly reporting the situation at the project to CM KCR," the Minister said adding that there is a possibility that the flow of flood water would decrease only if the rains decrease.
