Major fire in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant; machinery gutted

VISAKHAPATNAM: A major fire broke out in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Saturday evening.

An accident occurred in the naphthalene unit of the coke oven section of the steel plant.

While the workers were engaged in welding work, embers flew up and naphthalene caught fire. A huge fire broke out and the machines and electrical equipment were completely gutted. It is reported that there has been heavy property damage. Firefighters have reached the spot and are trying to douse the fire.
