HYDERABAD: The Malakpet Police on Saturday arrested a gang involved in the production and sale of fake Mysore Sandal soaps.

As part of the investigation, the police conducted searches and discovered counterfeit products along with manufacturing materials worth around Rs. 2 crore, which were subsequently seized.

The investigation revealed that Rakesh Jain and Mahavir Jain were working together to produce these duplicate and copycat soaps. It may be noted that the patent rights for Mysore Sandal soaps are owned by the Government of Karnataka through the Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL).

Recently, Karnataka Industries Minister and KSDL Chairman MB Patil received information about fake Mysore sandal soaps being circulated in the market in Hyderabad. He immediately informed the authorities and the police in Telangana, leading to the latest arrests and seizures.

Mysore Sandal is a very popular brand of soaps across India for several decades.

The police seized the copycat soap covers and labels too.
