NALGONDA: In a shocking incident, a 56-year-old man succumbed due to injuries after he was allegedly beaten up at the Chinthapally police station in Devarakonda constituency of Nalgonda district.

The deceased was identified as Menavath Surya from Palem thanda of Chinthapally mandal. He succumbed while he was undergoing treatment in the area hospital of Devarakonda. Surya had a dispute with his brother Bheema over sharing their ancestral land.

With this, Surya’s brother filed a complaint with the Chinthapally police station, sub-inspector Sateesh Reddy called both the brothers to the police station to record their statements. Congress MPTC Vasanth Nayak had intervened in the matter and allegedly influenced the police to arrest deceased Surya Nayak.

Relatives said that Surya went to Chinthapally police station two days later as he was residing in Hyderabad. The relatives also alleged that the SI was angry over them turning up late and manhandled Surya, who sustained severe injuries. He was immediately rushed to Devarakonda area hospital.

While the hospital staff were examining his blood pressure, Surya collapsed and died of a heart stroke as his blood pressure was high when he was brought in, the doctors said.

The relatives of Surya alleged that he was beaten up by SI Satish Reddy at the behest of Congress MPTC Vasanth Naik and demanded action against him. After being informed about Surya’s death, Satish Reddy was absconding.

Responding to the allegations levelled by relatives of the deceased, Superintendent of Police (SP) Aproova Rani ordered an inquiry into the incident. She also issued orders attaching SI Satish Reddy to headquarters. The SP said that further action would be taken if Satish Reddy was found guilty during the inquiry.
