Nizamabad boxers win medals at CWG: Nikhat Zareen gold, Hussamuddin bronze

Boxing world champion and Telangana daughter Nikhat Zareen won a gold, adding to the tally of medals of India in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) at Birmingham on Sunday. She out-boxed a Northern Ireland veteran pugilist Carly McNaul totally in the final round of women's light flyweight

championship. Nikhat's gold is the 17th gold of India and 48th of all medals in the ongoing CWG. The world champion boxer, who made Telangana proud once again, was the third Indian to win a gold in CWG boxing championships on Sunday after Nitu Ghanghas and Amit Panghal who also triumphed earlier in the day.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao congratulated Nikat Zareen on her victory. He called up the champion over phone and extended his greetings. KCR said that the prestige of Telangana was enhanced by the boxer and that the State Government always encouraged sports persons.

Nikat Zareen was born on June 14, 1996 in Nizamabad.

Boxer Hussamuddin wins bronze

Another Telangana boxer Mohammed Hussamuddin, also from Nizamabad district, bagger a bronze medal in the men's 57 kg featherweight on Saturday. The Indian pugilist lost to Joseph Comey of Ghana 1-4 in the semifinal match, settling for a Bronze.

Chief Ministet KCR and Minister Vemula Prashant Reddy congratulated him.
