Rains wreak havoc in Hyderabad
The police advised people to postpone their travel. They also said that it would continue to rain for a few more hours.
HYDERABAD: Very heavy rains battered the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad inundating roads, flooding some colonies and bringing the traffic to a grinding halt. Rain began early in the morning, though it was mostly drizzling.
Many arterial roads were choked with heavy traffic owing to the flooding by rainwater. Police personnel, traffic officials, GHMC and Hyderabad Metro water supply and sewerage board staff swung into action to clear the roads and mitigate the inconvenience to the commuting public. Some colonies near Temple Alwal, Begumpet Brahmanwadi too were inundated by rainwater.
Major arterial roads like Begumpet, Banjara Hills, road at Moospaet metro station and Bata Singaram fruit market were battered by rains. The wall of Wazukhana of the Mecca Masjid collapsed due to rain. The Madhapur-Hitec City road was clogged due to rainwater causing huge traffic jam.
The rainfall recorded at 6 pm at different places was Hafeezpet – 9.3 cm, Balanagar – 9.2 cm, Gajula Ramaram – 9 cm, Rajendra Nagar – 8.5 cm, Hyderanagar – 8.1 cm, Madhapur – 7 cm, Moula Ali – 6.8 cm, Neredmet – 6.7 cm, Mylardevpalli – 6.7 cm.
Heavy rain inundated the city of Vijayawada also on Friday. The city witnessed three hours of continuous rain. Main roads were flooded, and looking like ponds. Motorists were facing severe problems due to the water level increasing to knee-level.
M G Road, Labbipet, Moghalrajpuram, Krishna Lanka, Eluru Road and low-lying areas of Revenue Colony in Vijayawada were heavily flooded.
