HYDERABAD: Former Minister T Harish Rao refuted allegations by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy that the previous BRS government had handed over control of the Telangana's dams to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB).

Addressing the meeting of BRS workers in the LB Nagar Assembly constituency on Sunday, Harish Rao asserted that during the 10 years of the KCR Government, despite pressure from the BJP Government at the Centre, none of the projects were handed over to the KRMB. He highlighted a condition set by the then BRS Government, emphasising a 50 per cent share in Krishna water, recognition of Srisailam as a hydel project, and consideration of only 20 per cent for drinking water.

Harish Rao expressed concern that within two months of the Congress Government coming to power, the projects were handed over, compromising the state's interests. He accused Revanth Reddy of lacking knowledge and acting recklessly.

He pointed out that the Congress-led UPA Government drafted the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill, which had the provisions to give control of Telangana's projects to the Centre. He asked whether or not the Bill was drafted by then Congress Ministers Jaipal Reddy and Jairam Ramesh. He criticised Revanth Reddy for not understanding the issues and accused him of bringing a water crisis to Telangana.

Harish Rao warned of potential consequences if the projects were handed over to KRMB, citing problems with irrigation and drinking water in the united Khammam, Nalgonda, and Mahbubnagar districts. He said it would also create a drinking water crisis in Hyderabad.

He asserted that Revanth Reddy was not qualified to speak on the Pothireddypadu project as he remained tight-lipped when he was with the TDP. He urged Revanth Reddy to look at his past before criticising the BRS.

Regarding the Pothireddypadu issue, Harish Rao credited BRS for fighting against it in the Assembly, stalling proceedings for 30 days.

He said that the BRS was ready to debate these issues in the upcoming Assembly session and would provide a fitting reply to the Congress's allegations.

Criticising the Chief Minister for using inappropriate language during a press conference, Harish Rao stated that Revanth Reddy's tone was cheap and unsuitable for public consumption, especially for children watching it on TV. Referring to former Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu's call for sobriety in politics, Harish Rao expressed disappointment that Revanth Reddy, despite attending the meeting in the morning, continued with vulgar language in the same afternoon.

Harish Rao said that if Revanth Reddy was a man of honour, the Congress party should not seek votes before implementing all the promises it had made during Assembly elections. He said that the Congress Government had failed to fulfill the promises such as Rythu Bandhu, pension hikes, free power, and loan waivers.

He called upon the BRS cadre to work hard to secure victory in the Malkajgiri MP seat, emphasising its importance in representing Telangana's interests in Delhi. After the Lok Sabha polls, he said the BRS cadre should continue to work hard to win the local bodies elections.
