Rs.1.25 lakh cr needed for implementing 6 guarantees; govt gave just Rs.53,000 cr, says KTR
BRS Working President KTR described the interim budget presented by the Congress Government on Saturday as highly disappointing and directionless.
HYDERABAD: BRS Working President K. Tarakarama Rao described the interim budget presented by the Congress Government on Saturday as highly disappointing and directionless.
Addressing the meeting of BRS workers of Sanathnagar constituency in Secunderabad, KTR stated that at least Rs 1.25 lakh crore was needed to implement the six guarantees given by the Congress party. However, only Rs 53,000 crore has been allocated in the budget. He pointed out that the six guarantees comprised 13 major promises. Furthermore, the Congress party had made a total of 420 promises, yet there was no mention or clarity on how those promises would be fulfilled.

KTR highlighted that the Congress Government would need about Rs 50,000 crore to implement the scheme of giving Rs 2,500 per month to all women under the Mahalakshmi guarantees. Therefore, he emphasised that there was no match between the allocations and the promises to be fulfilled by the Congress Government. He noted that the budget did not specify how the Congress Government would mobilize funds for the implementation of schemes like Rythu Bandhu, Aasra Pensions, and crop loan waiver.
The BRS leader expressed concern that the development of the State would be affected due to the cancellation of significant projects like Pharma City and Metro Rail expansion. He warned that if development was hindered, there was a risk of a reduction in the income and revenue to the state.
KTR criticised the Congress Government for attempting to divert people's attention through various meant instead of making efforts to fulfill promises. He highlighted Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's statement that the six guarantees would be implemented only if the Congress came to power at the Centre, calling it open cheating of the people of Telangana.
He accused the Congress Government of halting the development of Hyderabad by depriving funds. He pointed out that the BRS party had won 16 out of 24 seats in Greater Hyderabad, while seven seats were won by MIM and one by the BJP. Since the Congress party could not win a single seat, its government in the State was deliberately trying to stop the city's development.
He urged party corporators to work hard to strengthen the BRS in Hyderabad, attributing the party's success to the dedication of every single corporator and adherence to the party line over the last ten years.
KTR alleged that the Congress Government had been disrupting the functioning of GHMC with political ulterior motives. He said that the GHMC, as a local government constituted as part of the five-tier system of administration established by the Constitution, should use its wide powers under the Act to meet the challenges posed by the state government. He said that the GHMC corporators elected by the people should exercise their powers.
Furthermore, KTR warned that if free electricity up to 200 units, as promised by the Congress during elections, was not given, the BRS would launch a massive agitation. He announced that the BRS would be conducting a massive public meeting in Nalgonda on February 13 to protest against the handing over of Telangana's water rights to the Krishna River Management Board.
The meeting was also addressed by former ministers Talasani Srinivas Yadav and Mahmood Ali, GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijaya Lakshmi, and other leaders.
