HYDERABAD: Narendra Modi-led NDA Government at the Centre, in a bid to steal the thunder out of the Congress-led INDIA bloc, conferred the highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna, to the former Prime Minister of India posthumously.

The Centre also conferred the honour posthumously on world famous Agricultural scientist the late M S Swaminathan.

The Congress party would surely be embarrassed with the move as it cannot denounce or criticise the decision to honour the late Narasimha Rao with the honour. The Congress carries the stigma of humiliating Rao in his lifetime and also in his death, denying him space for cremation in Delhi and also entry for the body to be placed in the AICC headquarters.

While Narasimha Rao is regarded as the father of economical reforms in India, Swaminathan is respected for the agricultural reforms in the country.

Paying his reapects to Narasimha Rao, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “As a distinguished scholar and statesman, Narasimha Rao Garu served India extensively in various capacities. He is equally remembered for the work he did as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Union Minister, and as a Member of Parliament and Legislative Assembly for many years. His visionary leadership was instrumental in making India economically advanced, laying a solid foundation for the country's prosperity and growth.

“Narasimha Rao Garu’s tenure as Prime Minister was marked by significant measures that opened India to global markets, fostering a new era of economic development. Furthermore, his contributions to India's foreign policy, language and education sectors underscore his multifaceted legacy as a leader who not only steered India through critical transformations but also enriched its cultural and intellectual heritage.”
