HYDERABAD: Another tragedy unfolded when a student tragically lost her life after falling from the hostel building in Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technologies (RGUKT), popularly known as IIIT-Basar in the Nirmal district on Thursday.
Two days ago, a first year Pre-University Course (PUC) student V Deepika died by suicide by hanging herself with her chunni in the bathroom. Before recovering from the incident, another first year PUC student identified as B Likitha (17) died after falling from the fourth floor of the hostel building at IIIT-Basar. As a result, Likhita fell unconscious.
Alerted students informed the college authorities about the incident, who immediately rushed Likitha to campus health center, where she was given first aid before she was shifted to Nirmal Government Hospital. Doctors after examining Likitha declared her dead. Upon receiving the information about the incident, a team of police personnel rushed to the spot. The body was shifted to Nirmal Government hospital for post-mortem. While it is being suspected to be a case of suicide, the police are probing the case from all angles to rule out the possibility of any other reason for death.
Likitha was a native of Gajwel in Siddipet district. Only a week ago, she went to the hostel and the family members were devastated by the tragic news. IIIT-Basar in-charge vice-chancellor Venkata Ramana paid homage to Likitha at the mortuary in Nirmal Government Hospital. ‘’It is very unfortunate that Likitha lost her life after accidentally falling from the building. Steps are being taken to prevent the deaths in the college. Students should stay strong and not lose their composure,’’ Venkata Ramana said.
