HYDERABAD: The Tollywood drugs case took an unexpected turn as the Excise Department faced a setback in the Nampally court.
Out of the eight cases registered, six were dismissed due to lack of proper evidence. The FSL report played a crucial role in the dismissal of these cases, which the court claimed were not backed by adequate proof. The court also criticized the excise department for not following proper procedures.

In 2018, the Excise Department registered cases against several actors, leading to the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The department had questioned several Tollywood actors for months, taking samples of hair, nails and other materials.
These samples were sent to FSL for examination. However, FSL only examined the samples of director Puri Jagannath and actor Tarun, concluding that no traces of drugs were found in their bodies. This led to the dismissal of six out of eight cases, highlighting the need for proper evidence and procedure in such cases.
