25-year-old girl dies by suicide in hostel room in Hyderabad, protesters demand justice
A 25-year-old girl died by suicide at a hostel in Ashok Nagar in the Hyderabad city leading to flash protests by youths demanding justice to her on Friday night.
HYDERABAD: A 25-year-old girl died by suicide at a hostel in Ashok Nagar in the city leading to flash protests by youths demanding justice to her on Friday night.
Marri Pravallika who is staying in Brindavan Hostel in Ashok Nagar died by suicide on Friday evening. However, the exact timing of the suicide could not be ascertained as yet.
A suicide note purportedly written by her was recovered from the scene. The note mentioned that she was dying and she had sought an apology from her mother. She advised her family members to live happily and that she was very grateful to her mother was taking care of her so well. She claimed to be unfortunate. She did not mention any reason for her death in the letter.
However, protesters gathered in large numbers at the hostel and began raising slogans. The crowd attributed her death to the postponement of Group 2 entrance examinations by the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) in view of the elections.
The TSPSC had postponed the examinations to January 6 and 7 from the original schedule.
The protests became big with the crowds swelling by the minute.
Meanwhile, the police deployed forces to quell the mobs and bring the situation under control. The Chikkadapally police registered a case of suicide. The situation continues too be tense and the police deployed large forces.
Efforts to shift the body from the hostel were prevented by large number of protesters. The police are trying to shift the corpse for a postmortem.
